Job Overview
We are seeking reliable and safety-conscious drivers to transport students safely to and from school. You will follow set routes according to the Somerset Council School Term Dates, ensuring punctual arrivals and departures while maintaining a safe and positive environment for all passengers.
Main Responsibilities
- Student Transport: Safely operate a school bus or minibus to pick up and drop off pupils at designated locations according to a strict schedule.
- Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily vehicle safety checks (e.g., tyres, lights, oil) and report any defects immediately to the Transport Officer.
- Passenger Welfare: Maintain good behaviour on the bus, acting as a role model and ensuring all students follow safety rules (e.g., wearing seatbelts).
- Record Keeping: Use the fitted tachograph to record working time, and report any behavioural incidents or traffic hazards.
- Cleaning (Optional Hours): Additional paid hours are available for the thorough cleaning and internal upkeep of the vehicle fleet to ensure a hygienic environment.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Licence: A valid UK driving licence with Category D1 entitlement is essential or training may be given to the right candidate.
- CPC: Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
- Experience: Previous experience driving large vehicles or working within an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Safeguarding: Ability to pass an Enhanced DBS check is a mandatory requirement for working with children.
- Communication: Fluent English is required for effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
- Attributes: A calm, patient, and reliable personality with excellent time-management skills.
