Padstow Obby Oss Festival
Wednesday 1st May
£23.00pp coach only
The festival takes place on May Day every year. It entails two separate processions that make their way around Padstow on circuits that take twelve hours to traverse. Each procession represents a different half of the town’s community. Only those whose families have lived in Lowenac Padstow for at least two generations are permitted to take part in the processions. Each procession contains by an ‘Obby ‘Oss, a hobby horse consisting of an oval frame covered in black oilskin, which has a small horse’s head in the front with a snapping jaw. This is led by an individual known as the Teaser, who is dressed in white and carries a painted club. The procession also contains a retinue of white-clad individuals, some playing accordions, melodeons and drums.

Charlestown and Mevagissey
Tuesday 7th May
£22.00pp coach only
There are many things to do in Mevagissey, from beautiful beaches to charismatic pubs and cafes to stunning surroundings.
This Cornish fishing village is a charming place that feels a lot more local than other spots on the coastline, with cob and slate cottages that hark back to its historic pilchard trade and rich maritime history. It still has an active fishing industry, and you’ll notice this as you walk around. There are lots of places where you can appreciate its heritage throughout the town, as well as opportunities to see its beautiful coastline. |

Montacute National Trust
Tuesday 14th May
National Trust Members £18.00pp
Non National Trust Members £31.00pp
Montacute is a masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design. With its towering walls of glass, glow of ham stone and surrounding garden and parkland, it is a place of beauty and wonder.
Sir Edward Phelps was the visionary force and money behind the creation of this masterpiece, which was completed in 1601. Built by skilled craftsman using local ham stone under the instruction of William Arnold, master mason, the house was a statement of wealth, ambition and showmanship. The ground floor of the house is open; however, the upper floors are currently closed. A beautiful garden surrounds Montacute House, constantly changing, filling the house with scent in summer and providing an atmospheric backdrop for a winter walk. Whether you just want to let the children run and explore or be inspired by the collections housed within the walls of Montacute, you will leave with lasting memories and a desire to soon return. |

Lacock National Trust
Tuesday 28th May
National Trust Members £22.00pp
Non National Trust Members £41.00pp
Lacock Abbey is a quirky country house, developed over the centuries around a former 13th century nunnery, and the birthplace of modern photography. It is set in spacious wooded grounds, with plenty of space to picnic, and is now recognisable from films varying from Pride and Prejudice to Harry Potter.
It was home to the Fox Talbot family. In the early 19th century, polymath William Henry Fox Talbot invented the photographic negative, a cornerstone in the rise of photography as both an art and a popular hobby. |
