Forde Abbey

Forde Abbey is a privately owned former Cistercian monastery dating back to the early 12th century. It was converted into a palatial family home during the mid 17th century. The Garden was developed in the 1800s and has continued to evolve over the years.

Summer sees wonderful herbaceous borders by the Canal, and nearby on the slopes wildflowers take their place. There is also a massive gravity fountain fed by the 2 lakes.

Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway is a standard gauge heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England, named after the company that originally built the railway over which it now operates. The 16-mile (26 km) heritage line runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn along the Severn Valley for much of its route, and crossing the river on the historic Victoria Bridge. Enjoy a steam-hauledtrain ride along the beautiful Severn Valley between Bridgnorth, Bewdley and Kidderminster. Visit the Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley or visit one of the Tearooms and Inns at stations along the route.

Now, for the first time ever, the public can get exclusive access to the gardens and uncover the gardens beauty with unseen views of Buckingham Palace as a backdrop.

Garden Highlights.

Visitors can walk without restrictions amongst the sizeable plot of 39 acres. There are around 325 different species of plants to take in as well as around 1000 trees. Some trees were even planted by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

The famous Herbaceous border which stretches out to over 155Meters is a sight to behold and do not miss the palace lake, complete with waterfall and secluded island with Beehives for the royal Bees.

Looe and Polperro

The ancient and unspoilt fishing harbour of Polperro is nestled within a steep-sided valley. The village has the Chapel Cliffs on one side and the Warren on the other; both on the South West Coast Path and with a network of footpaths to explore to Looe. The walk passes an early Christian holy site and the ruins of a medieval chapel built on it.

Gloucester Canal aboard Queen Boadicea II, A Dunkirk Little Ship

The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal (also known as the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal) is a ship canal in the west of England, between Gloucester and Sharpness, completed in 1827. For much of its length the canal runs close to the tidal River Severn It was once the broadest and deepest canal in the world. The canal is 26.5 km (16.5 miles) long.

The historic Dunkirk Little Ship Queen Boadicea II departs from the National Waterways Museum Gloucester during the summer season on a 45 minute journey along the canal.
